Jewellery Care Guide

Precious metal jewellery will scratch and wear naturally over time. It is recommended to avoid letting your jewellery come into contact with hard or abrasive surfaces like steel or concrete, that can cause damage to the metal and stones of your piece. Even a diamond, the hardest stone of all, can chip if hit with enough force or at just the right angle. Many stones such as amethyst, emerald, pearl, peridot, tanzanite and tourmaline are delicate and easily abraded. Sudden temperature changes or exposing your jewellery to harsh chemicals like bleach or cleaning products should be avoided.

We strongly recommend that you take off your rings before playing sport, going to the gym, washing dishes, gardening, swimming in chlorinated water, or doing anything that could potentially damage your gemstones and rings.

Timeworn settings and clasps can result in the loss of a stone or an entire piece of jewellery. Please inspect your pieces from time to time for such damage, and if you notice any signs of weakness or stones coming loose, please bring it back to us for inspection and repair.

Storing Jewellery

It is important to treat your jewellery with care and store it separately from other jewellery where pieces can scratch each other. Necklaces and pendants should be stored flat to avoid bends forming in the chain or cord. All clasps should be checked regularly before wearing your piece to ensure they are strong and secure.

Cleaning Your Jewellery At Home

It is recommended that you regularly clean your jewellery at home, using a mild solution of warm water with a drop of dishwashing detergent. Soak your piece for 10 minutes, then gently brush with a soft baby brush, especially under settings where dirt tends to collect more. To dry, polish with a soft non-abrasive cloth. We recommend weekly cleaning of pieces worn frequently, such as engagement and wedding rings.

For more thorough cleaning, we recommend that you bring your Lizunova jewellery to our store for a complimentary ultrasonic clean and settings check.

There are gemstones that should not be cleaned using ultrasonic devices, such as emeralds, opal, tanzanite and pearls.
